Submission Deadline: June 29, 2012

The 2012 Lilly Oncology On Canvas Art Competition invites individuals from the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada diagnosed with any type of cancer - as well as their families, friends, caregivers and healthcare providers - to express, through art and narrative, the life-affirming changes that give their cancer journeys meaning.

The following information is intended to familiarize you with the competition. It is not a substitute for, nor does it supersede, the official rules and regulations, which you may access and download here. You can also view responses to frequently asked questions, and print registration and submission forms, which are contained in the call for entries.

Eligibility: To enter, you must be: 18 years of age or older; a resident of the United States, Puerto Rico or Canada; and a person diagnosed with any type of cancer - or a family member, friend, caregiver or healthcare provider of a person diagnosed with cancer.

Registering your intent: If you are interested in participating in the competition, you must first register, either online or by completing and mailing a registration form, which is contained in the call for entries. You must register as soon as possible, but no later than April 30, 2012.

Capturing your journey: Themes and inspirations that give your cancer journey meaning are everywhere - from a caring friend or healthcare provider, to a landscape or moment of self-discovery - or other special moment.

Creating your artwork: Create an original, flat artwork that depicts your cancer journey in one of the following media: watercolor, oil, pastel, photography, acrylic or mixed media. Your artwork must be flat and at least 9 inches x 12 inches and no more than 18 inches x 24 inches.

Creating your narrative: Create an original narrative of no more than 125 words that best describes the cancer journey depicted in your artwork.

What not to include in your artwork and narrative: Please do not write or sign your name or add your address or any other personally identifiable information to your entry. Please do not include: specific names of drugs, healthcare facilities or providers; product or brand names or logos; or quotations from religious texts or copyrighted material, such as song lyrics.

Submitting your entry: Your entry must be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than the postmark date of June 29, 2012.

Selecting winners: In the fall of 2012, an independent panel of judges will chose the top three winners, in addition to the winners of 21 other categories. Judges will select artwork and narratives they feel best portray inspiring cancer journeys.

Donating to charities: Winners' prizes consist of a donation made in their name to the cancer-related charity of their choice. Charities must be officially recognized as nonprofit organizations and a significant portion of their missions must be cancer-related.

Touring the art: Following the competition, much of the artwork will be incorporated into an exhibition touring cancer centers, hospitals and patient advocacy groups events.
